Demir Demirkan was born on August 12, 1972 in Adana. He completed high school at İzmir Private Çamlaraltı College. He studied English Language and Literature at Bilkent University. During his university years, he joined the band Pentagram as a guitarist.

After completing the album "Trail Blazer" with the band Pentagram, he moved to Los Angeles and started studying at the Musicians Institute in 1992. He studied with many musicians such as Paul Hanson, Scott Henderson and Frank Gambale. After his graduation, he stayed in Los Angeles and recorded, played guitar and wrote lyrics in many musical styles such as pop-jazz, afro, latin and rock.

He returned to Istanbul in 1996. Upon his return, he recorded the Anatolia album with the band Pentagram, and produced Şebnem Ferah's album "Kadın". In the same year, he produced Sertab Erener's album "Sertab Gibi" (1997). He left the band Pentagram because his production side was overpowering. In 1999, he produced Şebnem Ferah's album "Artık Kısa Cümleler Kuruyorum" and Sertab Erener's album "Sertab". He recorded the song "Private Emotions", a duet between Ricky Martin and Sertab Erener, produced by Desmond Child, and this version was released in Middle Eastern countries.

In 1999, he signed a contract with Sony Music Turkey. His first solo album, Demir Demirkan, was released in May 2000. He played supporting roles in two TV movies. At the end of 2000, he entered the studio again for Sertab Erener's "Orange" album. In March 2002, he released his 2nd solo album "Dünya Benim" (The World is Mine).Demir Demirkan starred in the TV series "5'i Bir Yerde" (5'i Bir Yerde) which started to be broadcast on Show TV in October 2002. Demirkan wrote the theme song and the music and also shot a music video for the song "Hayat Sensiz Olmuyor" with footage from the series.

In 2003, he wrote the lyrics and composed the song "Every Way That I Can", which brought Turkey first place in the Eurovision Song Contest.In 2004, he released his 3rd solo album Istanbul 2004, and in 2007, he released his 4th solo album Çırılçıplak in the Fire Rain.In 2008, he released his 5th solo album Yolun Yarısı. He released Öfkem ve Ben in 2010. In 2012, he released 2000-2012. At the end of the same year he released Hatırla. Then in 2014 he released his 6th solo album, Tam Ölmek de Değil.
