Oya was born on March 3, 1977 in Bursa. She is of Circassian origin. After graduating from Private Koç High School, she graduated from Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory Theater Department in 1998.

In 1999, together with Ali Atay, he founded the Krek Theater Company in Istanbul.

In 2003, upon the request of Istanbul State Theater, he dramatized Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu's novel "Yaban". In 2008, he served as a jury member at the Eurasia International Film Festival.

In 2010, as part of the International Royal Court Residency program, he received the Best Director Award at the Heidelberg Stückemarkt Theater Festival in 2011 for his play Güzel Şeyler Bizim Tarafta (Beautiful Things are on Our Side) at The Royal Court Theater.

Since 2011, Berkun Oya has been teaching theater with Berkun Oya, Celal Kadri Kinoglu, Levent Kazak, Levent Erden, Bahar Kerimoglu and Levent Erden in the workshops of Krek Theater, founded by Berkun Oya and Ali Atay in Santral Istanbul.

He prepared and presented a program called Defakto on CNN Turk.

In 2004, she starred in the TV series "Sahra" written by Nuran Devres together with Arzum Onan, Okan Şenozan, Neslihan Yeldan, Serhat Tutumluer, Mazlum Kiper, Semih Sergen, Jeyan Mahfi Tözüm, Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan, Bülent Emrah Parlak.

Berkun Oya married Dilara Sakpınar, the lead singer of the band 123, on June 22, 2015 with a wedding in Bozcaada
